The Bum’s Rush #89 News, Rumors and Lies? What is this article about? Politics? ...oh, it's about comics? Well! That's a Hulk of a different color! One thing that I happen to have the inside scoop on is the upcoming continuations of Otis Frampton's "Oddly Normal" series put out by Viper Comics. The first volume in the Oddly Normal series (available for purchase here) is a delight. The story is fun and a great bulid-up of a young half-witch's (Oddly) stories to come. After you finish the first book, you'll be as antsy as I am for the next installment to be released. The second book in the series in currently in the works. Otis has written the story and its being drawn by the insanely talented Sergio Quijada. A few snippets of the art has popped up on the internet, and it seems Sergio's style is really going to work well with the magical storyline of the Oddly series. The third book is going to be drawn by a very talented illustrator names Jessica Hickman. I’m very drawn (ha! drawn....) to Jessica's style for its subtle pencil work and soulful facial expressions. I'm excited to see her work in a sequential format. I've heard bits and pieces of the storyline of this book and I think that it will match Jessica's style in the best kind o' way. I can't wait to see more sketched from her! Uh... I should also mention that I know Jess in real life from the convention circuit and, as the Mighty Monarch would say, "I met her in the LiveJournal!". She's a sweetie and one of the nicest people around. Her "Space Quint" drawings never cease to crack me up... he ought to have his very own animated TV series. No foolin'! The FOURTH book in the series is *cough* rumored... no, confirmed that it will be drawn by none other than Katie Cook. Uh... Katie is a spectacular... no... stellar... no... amazler-magnificating-stuntacular artist! Uh... she's also the one writing this article and she has a tendency to think WAY too highly of herself... (check me out... I mean, check my art out at www.katiecandraw.com) But after hearing the story outline for the fourth book (and my lips are SEALED about it!) I'm thrilled to be on board the "Oddly" train. It's a great story with characters that you really care about and set in a fun environment that's lush and full o' good stuff! Go buy the first book... and wait impatiently for more books in the series like the rest of us! Also.... Dear Paul, writin' be hard. you can keep your words! I'm sticking with da' purdy pictures.
