| Sucker Punch Spotlight | by Dave Sherrill |
|
This Suckerpunch Spotlight was a real toss up between Dalton Sharp and Jess Fink. Both are excellent artists, both do beautiful full page webcomics, both have already responded to my emails, but I had to make a decision. I decided that I should just go ahead and do this week’s Suckerpunch Spotlight on the one I have a great big creepy crush on. ..but that didn't seem fair, so I did the Suckerpunch Spotlight on Jess Fink instead. Jess Fink is 24 years old. She's 24 years old and has a bachelor’s degree in Cartooning and Illustration from the School Of Visual Arts in Manhattan, NY. She's 24 and she's had her stuff published approximately 9 million times. She's owned her own business doing caricatures for the last five years. She's had her work mentioned in Time Magazine. She's done book covers, advertisements, published her own comic book, and built her own award winning catwoman suit, AND she got all the old sticker glue off my guitar case. Jess Fink is 24 years old. I have wasted my life, here's the Q&A. STUMBLEBUM STUDIOS - You do autobiographical comics on your livejournal that are amazing. What do you make them with? JESS FINK -I make them with all kinds of things. I've tried using expensive watercolor paper and brushes, but I feel most comfortable doing comics with micron or colored pencil on sketchbook paper. I ink wash my erotic comics, but I like to just ink with a micron for my autobiographical stuff. SS
- You actually have a bachelors degree in Cartooning and
Illustration, how much longer before I have to pay to read
your beautiful webcomics?JF - Not too much longer hopefully! Hehe, actually i'm trying to pull a few books together at once right now, we'll see what happens with them. In the mean time I'm opening(now open!) a store for my site and will sell my comics and t-shirts and crappola from there. SS - Please tell me what it's like to get mentioned in Time Magazine. JF - It was weird! Actually someone else e-mailed me telling me about it, I was totally surprised! SS - What's the earliest you remember drawing comics? JF - When I was like 6 or 7 I made this epic book about a little mouse trying to save his girlfriend mouse who was flying in a run-away hot air balloon, it went on for like 50 pages, I got really upset because I think my mom accidentally threw most of it out! SS - You've actually had quite a few things published, can you tell me a few of them and where they were published? JF - I was first published in SPX 2002, then again in 2003 I've had a ton of my erotic work published by Eros/Fantagraphics books, the stories I do are for monthly erotic anthologies of which I've done a few covers too. Right now I'm working on a 24 page book for them with the help of another female erotic fiction writer, the amazing Polly Frost. SS - Is it too early in our relationship to say that Stumblebum Studios is in love with you? JF - Not at all! But seriously, stop calling me at 4 in the morning, or I'm calling the police. Check out more of Jess Fink's stuff and buy her stuff!
