Anybody see that
Batgirl meme that just about cracked the Internet in
half (haha, I’ll never get tired of that) a week or two
ago? Here’s
my entry!
-
Garth Ennis and Clayton Crain will be working on a
second
Ghost Rider mini-series, this time focusing
on the Old West version of the character.
-
Marvel’s got another new event in the vein of their
Marvel Monsters and I Heart Marvel
one-shots. This one will feature four Western themed
stories starring characters like the Two-Gun Kid, Kid
Colt, Red Wolf and more. Eric Powell
will provide covers and each one-shot will also
include a reprint of a classic Jack Kirby
Rawhide Kid comic.
-
The Marvel Knights
line will
undergo a bit of a shuffle soon with most of its titles,
like Daredevil, 4 and Marvel Knights Spiderman (changing
to Sensational Spiderman), moving into the Marvel
Universe proper. Knights will then become more focused
on high profile projects by big-name creators or stories
that may not have much of a connection to current
continuity. The new Ghost Rider mini will be an MK
title, as well as Ennis’ Fury: Peacekeeper series with
more still to be announced.
-
Richard Corben
will be
working on a new Marvel MAX series titled Haunt of
Horror (based on a 70’s Marvel series of the same name),
which will present adaptations of several of Edgar Allan Poe
short stories.
-
Spider-Girl, a book that has managed to avoid
cancellation more times than I can count, will finally
end its celebrated run with issue 100.
-
Ed Brubaker
, currently writing
numerous books for Marvel including Daredevil and
X-Men:
Deadly Genesis, has been announced as the new writer for
Uncanny X-Men. Billy Tan will handle art chores.
-
Writer Mike Carey and artist Chris Bachalo are the
new creative team on the adjectiveless (ugh, I hate
calling it that) X-Men title. The new roster for the
book has also been announced as Cable, Mystique, Rogue,
Cannonball, Sabretooth and Iceman. What, no Wolverine?
Actually word has it that Wolverine’s X-Men appearances
will be completely limited to Joss Whedon
Astonishing
X-Men!
-
Speaking of Wolverine, his appearances in X-Men
books may be slimming down but that doesn’t mean he
won’t be just as overexposed as ever. Starting in April
he’ll be getting a second ongoing series, Wolverine:
Origins that will deal with Logan’s pursuit of vengeance
in the wake of having all his previously suppressed
memories unlocked.
-
I’m sure everyone has seen
the
new costume Spiderman will be wearing. I’m pretty
sure it’s one of the worst costumes I’ve seen.
Electric Superman laughs at that costume and goes
home with Mary Jane. I’d even take the old
Scarlet Spider attire
over that horrendous looking set of duds. But I suppose
since Marvel is determined to get as far away from what
makes Spiderman a good character as possible then the
new look is appropriate. Too harsh? The new costume is
being referred to as “Iron Spidey.” Come on! Why not
just have him fly while yer at it.
-
You can check out some alternate designs for the
“Iron Spidey” costume by some of the very talented
artists on Live Journal right
here.
-
DC has announced the new creative teams on two of
their biggest titles. Following his stint as co-writer
on Action Comics and Superman with Geoff Johns, Kurt Busiek
will become the new regular
writer on Superman and will be joined by superstar
artist Carlos Pacheco. Once James Robinson’s 8-part
story in Batman and Detective Comics wraps up writer
Paul Dini
and artist Rags
Morales will take over the reigns of Detective.
-
Geoff Johns and Tony Daniel have teased about the
appearance of a new Doom Patrol in an upcoming issue of
Teen Titans. Well, didn’t take ‘em long to chuck Byrne’s
aborted Doom Patrol out the window huh? Good for them.
-
Dan Jurgens
, a big name in
comics during the nineties, has resurfaced in a few
places over the last couple of years, most recently
drawing the Supreme Power: Hyperion mini-series at
Marvel. Now he’s signed an exclusive with DC Comics and
will be the artist on the upcoming Infinite Crisis
Aftermath miniseries, Battle for Bludhaven.
-
With the conclusion of Grant Morrison’s massive
Seven Soldiers series looming on the
horizon most fans will probably be pleased to know that
several of the Soldiers will be making prominent
appearances throughout the DCU.
-
Speaking of Grant Morrison, the writer is heading up
a massive relaunch of the
Wildstorm
Universe.
Along with writing the previously announced Wildcats
series, with art by Jim Lee, Morrison will also be
helming a new Authority series drawn by Gene Ha. Other
new series launches include Gen 13 by Gail Simone and
Talent Caldwell, Wetworks by Mike Carey and Whilce
Portacio (previously announced at the end of 2003),
Deathblow by Brian Azzarello and Carlos D’Anda and a
solo series for the Authority’s Midnighter by Garth
Ennis and Chris Sprouse. Personally, with so many
amazing talents on hand, I think this is going to be one
of the coolest events in 2006. Unfortunately, looking at
the artists involved, this might also be one of the
latest shipping events of the year.
-
Apparently Teen Titan’s mainstay Cyborg will make an
appearance in an upcoming episode of
Smallville
.
-
It seems that Cartoon Network’s
Justice League Unlimited
will
be going the way of the recently cancelled Teen Titans
series. Word is that most of the staff from JLU has
already been moved over to the production of a Legion of
Superheroes cartoon. The series will apparently have a
proper ending rather than an abrupt one but it seems
likely that the Paul Dini/Bruce Timm era of DC animated
series is pretty much finished.
-
Terry Moore’s critically acclaimed, award-winning
independent comic book series,
Strangers In Paradise, will end its almost
15-year run in 2007 with issue 90.
-
Brian Michael Bendis and Marc Andreyko’s
Torso, which followed Elliot Ness’ career in
Cleveland after taking down Al Capone in Chicago, will
finally be hitting the silver screen courtesy of
director David Fincher, writer Ehren
Kruger and producer Todd McFarlane. You should really
read Bendis’
Fortune and Glory graphic novel , which features a pretty hilarious account
of Bendis’ adventures in Hollywood, including trying to
sell Torso as a movie.
-
Kevin Grevioux (who co-wrote
Underworld and starred as the HUGE black
werewolf with the impossibly deep voice) has a new comic
coming out from
Alias called The
Hammer Kid. The all-ages fantasy series, illustrated by
Jack Lawrence of Lions, Tigers and Bears, will
center on a young boy who is transported to another
dimension where he finds and is able to wield the hammer
of Norse god, Thor. I’ve seen some
preview pages
from the book and it looks like it could be a lot of
fun.
-
Top Cow’s initial creator-owned series
Cyberforce finally returns as an ongoing series by Ron Marz and Pat Lee. Not that I was ever a fan of the book
but I’m just wondering why it took so long to bring
these characters back into the spotlight, considering
Cyberforce was Top Cow’s very first and one of its most
well known properties?
