It is time to break out the Green and Gold prayer beads
again…
The smell of football is in the air. Sunday afternoon,
attached to a barstool in a smoke filled sports bar, rooting
for our favorite teams, play by play, win after win, to
Detroit, home of Superbowl XL. From now until the beginning
of February, we will breathe football, drink football, dream
of our quarterback holding the Lombardi trophy covered in
confetti. Our lives will be overwhelmed by the thought of 52
men we have never met fighting and bleeding over a brown
piece of leather.
The next six months are my favorite time of the year. I
already have my Brett Favre Jersey hanging up and ready to
wear for their first preseason game. I signed up for my
first fantasy football league and will soak up every little
bit I can get on the Green Bay Packers and their opponents
from the internet and ESPN radio. I will still go to work,
do my job, come home, do everything a good little
responsible person would do, but a little man in the back of
my head keeps screaming, September 8th, September 8th.
Opening Day. I will try my best to be rational, upstanding
and to play it cool til February, but I can’t promise
anything. The colder the weather gets, the more my brain is
apt to freeze up and have minor aneurisms or flashing bouts
of Tourrette’s syndrome. Although that only seems to happen
when Brett Favre tosses the ball up in the air to an open
cornerback.
My bags are packed and are sitting in the corner, waiting
for the little yellow school bus to pick up that part of my
rationale that takes a vacation when football season starts
each year like a child going to camp, only to return in
February, excited to be back, but already waiting for next
year.
So, to my loyal readers, just remember, if you see me
walking the streets in mid January mumbling to myself
something along the lines of 4th and 26, 4th and 26, just
remember, I will soon get over it and back to my day to day
self. Just don’t mention football for a few weeks. I’ll be
ok. I promise. And you know I’ll never let you down.
As
always, if you want to drop me a line please send any
fan/hate mail to

rantings at

Also, stay tuned in the next few days for the message board
soon to be attached to each of these features.
Thank you
