The Weigh In by Dana Place

Hello friends and neighbors, after a week of sitting in the sun taking full advantage of the view, and getting too drunk to find my hotel room, I think it is time to get back to the grit and grime of the big city. I have a nice beating to look forward to from Guido the Happy Henchman, but at this point anything is better than waking up in a trash dumpster next to another homeless person with my pants around my ankles, half a tuna fish sandwich covering my face. Why does it always have to be a tuna fish sandwich? Why does it always have to be a dumpster? It is never the most beautiful woman in the bar, in her high dollar hotel room, surrounded by crown molding and large brass bathtubs. But I suppose it is hard to attract beautiful women with a 3 day old dumpster smell clinging to you, no matter how hard you scrub. These are the things I am pondering as I toss a few pairs of socks into my backpack. Ahh.. Good times. Something to tell the grandkids about one day.

My eventual turn to the dark side…

This week I wanted to say a few words about comic books. I spend more time than the average fan boy staying almost completely away from comic books. I prefer movies, music, and video games. Pretty much anything else I could get my hands on, just no comic books, especially the superhero kinds. The weirdest thing has started to happen though. I have started reviewing pre release comic books, and I must admit, even though some of the ones I have read are pretty horrible, I am getting quite hooked on the whole comic book thing. Everyone else here at Stumblebum studios reads them pretty regularly and one in particular (head nod Paulie) could tell you anything you ever wanted to know, and a lot more about things you didn’t want to know about comics. Until now, I have done a pretty good job of avoiding all of the comics he has suggested I read, but I think the tide is slowly turning. I like getting these preview books, and I can actually see myself keeping up with some of these series’. I don’t have any favorite artist and such but I am working on that. I think this is a really good thing for my growth as a.. um.. whatever I am trying to be.

As always, if you have any questions or comments for yours truly, please send them to DPlace76@yahoo.com, or you can check out some of my usual rantings on www.livejournal.com/users/bigdpimpin.
