The Weigh In by Dana Place

Before I take a shot at this week’s “The Weigh In”, I wanted to take a moment to give my condolences to the family members of the victims of the Hurricane Katrina. My thoughts and the thoughts of the rest of us here at Stumblebum Studios are with you.

Earlier this week, I watched the first official Fall Season television premier, Prison Break, a Fox television show about a man who commits a crime and is thrown into prison to try to break him out of jail. I will probably check it out for a few weeks until something better comes along. It seems more like a TV show better suited for cable. But we shall see I suppose. But, I digress, and just as importantly, finally get to my point. The new Fall TV Season. This week, I wanted to give everyone out there a list of the new television shows that you will be flipping through over the next few months. Who knows, you may stop on one them for more than a few minutes. And maybe, just maybe (hope against hope), a few of these might actually be the next “24” or “Friends.”

And ladies and gentlemen, this is the new slate of television shows for the fall. Should we start taking bets on which of these will last until Halloween?

And now for:

This weekend at your local multiplex (9/9/2005):

The Man: (Action/Comedy)
(Samuel L Jackson, Eugene Levy)
Plot: Federal Agent Derrick Vann (Samuel L. Jackson) and salesman Andy Fidler (Eugene Levy) are accidentally mistaken for each other and in order to put together a sting operation and find out what happened to agent Vann’s partner, they have keep up the charade.
Buzz: This movie sounds like dozens of 80’s buddy cop comedies, usually staring an ex cast member from Second City TV. There really doesn’t seem to be any kind of up side to this one.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose: (Horror)
(Laura Linney, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Jennifer Carpenter, Campbell Scott)
Plot: A priest is put on trial after performing an exorcism on Emily Rose (Jennifer Carpenter). Supposedly based on a true story.
Buzz: The early buzz on this movie is this is going to be a modern, creepier version of the Exorcist, and judging from the trailer, this movie is probably going to be pretty scary and is one I will definitely try to catch in theaters. And if you like a good scare, you may want to be there too.

New on DVD (9/6/2005):

Crash 21 Jump Street (season 3)
Toy Story (10th anniversary SE) Lost (season 1)
Hellraiser: Hellworld Deer Hunter (SE)
Charmed (season 2) The Sting (SE)
MacGyver (season 3) Pretty Woman (SE)
