The Weigh In #41
Since the last time we spoke, well I spoke and you listened
attentively, the Oscar nominations have been announced and I
am busy renting movies and trying my darndest to check out
each and every nominee of the top six categories. The next
three weeks will be dedicated to looking at each film, its
nominees, reviews, who I think should win, and who I think
probably will win. I am pretty excited about it. I hope you
tune in for that.

This Weekend at your local multiplex (2/10/2006)
The Pink Panther: Comedy
Steve Martin, Kevin Kline, Jean Reno, Beyonce Knowles,
Kristin Chenoweth, Emily Mortimer
Plot: A famous soccer coach is murdered and his
famous ring “the pink panther diamond” is stolen. When the
greatest detective in France is unavailable they bring in
Inspector Clouseau. He bumbles his way through the case
trying to solve the big mystery.
Buzz: I am going to stick my head in a toilet and
flush. This is wrong for way too many reasons to mention
here. Oh dear God in heaven. Steve Martin wrote it and, what
a coincidence, he happened to be available to star.
Curious George: Animated/Family
Will Ferrel, Drew Barrymore, David Cross, Eugene Levy, Joan
Plowright, Dick Van Dyke, Ed O’ Ross
Plot: Curious George the monkey follows the man in
the yellow hat from the wilds of Africa to the big city,
where he gets into all sorts of trouble.
Buzz: The first family film in a while and come on…
it is Curious George. If your kids don’t know they should
go. You may have a good time too.
Final Destination III: Horror
Ryan Merriman, Mary Elizabeth Wannstead
Plot: A high school senior has a premonition about a
fatal roller coaster accident. When the premonition comes
true, she begins to understand that she can predict who will
die and in what order.
Buzz: This all sounds pretty silly and all but so did
the original when it first came out. And that one was a
pretty damn funny movie. The 2nd was fun but not as good.
The good news, New Line brought back the guys that wrote and
directed the original. So we can only hope I guess.
Date Movie: Comedy
Alyson Hannigan, Adam Campbell, Eddie Griffen, Fred Willard
Plot: A parody of romantic comedies.
Buzz: Another of those “Scary Movie” and “Not Another
Teen Movie” type of parody films. If you liked the others, I
am sure you will be in line for this one.
Firewall: Thriller
Harrison Ford, Paul Bettany, Virginia Madsen, Mary Lynn
Rajskub, Robert Patrick, Robert Forster, Alan Arkin
Plot: Harrison Ford plays a bank security expert
whose family is kidnapped and he is forced to break into the
bank for them, and figure our how to save his family.
Buzz: Exactly how many times can you do the exact
same movie with different actors? Apparently at least one
more. Still wanna see this movie? Check out the trailer and
you get the entire movie in three minutes (no kidding). You
get the entire movie for free. Like Harrison Ford? Freeze
frame during one of his grimacing scenes and you should be
fine. I am just trying to save you some cash. That is what I
am here for.
