The Weigh In by Katie Cook

The Weigh in 84

I'm not much of a writer... or a reviewer for that matter. I have the tendency to be a little too... nice on occasion. But, that's just in my nature. So, for my take-over of the lover-ly Dana's "Weigh-In"... I'd like to discuss some cute, nice things.

HA! TAKE MY WOMAN'S TOUCH IN STRIDE, STUMBLEBUM BOYS!!!

One of my favorite things about the Internet is discovery. One link on my livejournal's friends' list and BAM! I've discovered something new that's damn captivating. Mostly, I look for cute things... as cute is what I do. But, I look for great art as well.

Here are my top 5 Internet discoveries, for you to share with me!

5)  Kidrobot: introduced me... and my wallet... to vinyl artist series toys. And I'll never forgive them for it.

4)  Tokidoki: This is a recent discovery of mine. I'd describe it as "Hello Kitty style for adults". The artwork is clean and fun... sometimes sexy and silly. The patterns this artist has made can be found on handbags that any funky gal would crave... but the iPod skins, posters, and toys available through the site are all pretty lust worthy.

3)  The art of Jon Morris: Years ago, while poking around the livejournal, I came across a post by this guy named Jon Morris. I went through back entry after back entry and inhaled his website. His art is inspiring to me. The style is all his own and everything has a sense of humor to it that tickles me a flattering shade of pink. Visit Jon here: http://www.ape-law.com/jonmorris/

2)  ThinkGeek: geek gadgets, geek shirts, unique computer... accessories... everything you'll ever need to make your cube the envy of the office! My current personal favorite is the USB rocket launcher, and other goodies offered under the "cube warfare" category.

It's also the only place where I've been able to find this guy, because I love him so.

1)  Friends and Connections: In a cop-out "Time Magazine's Person of the Year is YOU" move... my number 1 awesome Internet find is the friends that I've made along the way. I've met some awesome artists that not only support my work and my struggles... they let me stay at their home during comic conventions in their hometown! Some have even introduced me to companies that have hired me!

I've also met supporters and fans that have now followed me for years and continue to be awesome... as long as I stick around the ol' Internet :-)

I also met the Stumblebum boys! And they gave this lil' girl a chance to showcase her art to even more people... because they're rockstars.

So yeah man, Internet = good stuff.
