Blood
Bound
By: Patricia Briggs
Welcome to the newest book by Patricia Briggs, Blood Bound.
This book is the sequel to Moon Called. In these books
Mercedes Thompson, call her Mercy, is a local mechanic and
skinwalker. For those who don’t know what a skinwalker is,
at least in this story, it is a Native American who can turn
into a coyote at will without having to be tied to moon’s
cycle. They also are immune to most vampiric powers and can
communicate with ghosts.
In this world, some of the supernatural creatures have come
out of hiding like some werewolves, the fae, and witches.
‘Witch Hunts’ are illegal in the Tri-Cities. Unfortunately,
most groups keep to themselves but that’s where Mercy comes
in. She has a few friends in the different communities, so
by default she’s basically an ambassador between the groups.
Things start to get hairy when her vampire friend, Stefan,
calls in his favor from her. What would happen if a demon
attached itself to a vampire who has sorcerer powers? A
demon exerts evil when it’s around making everyone crazy, so
when people start getting killed the Vampires, Werewolves,
and Mercy get together and try to locate this particular
person who’s doing it, Cory Littleton.
Once the reader gets into the story they start to get
attached to the characters and feel strong emotions when
something happens to them, be it good or bad. Patricia
Briggs definitely has a way with telling her stories. The
description she uses is just enough to catch the mood and to
set the scene. She is able to have the reader focus on the
things she wants us to and not question the little things
around the main story. But, even while shadowing the Native
American Folklore the complex main characters keep the
reader entertained and always wanting more.
I would have to say that Patricia Briggs does an excellent
job with the romantic triangles, it keeps the reader
guessing which one she’ll pick or if she’ll pick. The reader
will also find little revelations throughout the story that
explains so much to the plot of the story. This is
definitely a sequel that’s worth picking up and devouring
the next chance you get. Enter the realm of the Tri-Cities
and I dare you to try and leave once you’ve finished the
book.
