ABC: A-Z Greyshirt and Cobweb
Story: Rick Veitch (Greyshirt), Steve Moore (Cobweb)
Artist: Ricke Veitch (Greyshirt), Melinda Gebbie (Cobweb)
Plot:
This issue tells the story of Greyshirt and Cobweb. This
comic is an attempt to create a quick back story for two
characters in the America’s Best Comics line of books.
Greyshirt is told from the perspective of his arch enemy,
and Cobweb is told in the form of a pin up style calendar
for 2006.
Review: A few weeks ago I reviewed the Tom Strong
back story that America’s Best Comics put together and
really enjoyed it. I thought it was a neat idea and a good
way to bring new people up to speed and create a handy
reference guide for fans of the book. The back stories for
Greyshirt and Cobweb seemed to be put together more as a
gimmick. While the Tom Strong comic was fun and a good read,
this collection seems silly and a waste of time. While I do
enjoy the idea of a forties crime fighter, the gimmicky
storytelling was a complete turnoff. The pin up calendar for
Cobweb only succeeded in confusing me (I still have no idea
what it is the comic is about). If you are a fan of the
comics you may enjoy this little one issue guide to these
characters back stories, but as an average reader I think
the gimmicky approach completely turned me off to both
comics.
Special thanks go out to Jeremy Shorr, owner of
Titan Comics for allowing us to use his advance
preview books for review purposes.
