Batman: Journey Into Knight #1 (of 12)
Writer: Andrew Helfer
Artist: Tan Eng Huat
Cover Artist: Pat Lee
Plot:
A young, inexperienced Batman stumbles on a plot to release
a new drug into the streets of Gotham, but there’s a
deadlier threat looming in the shadows as a pernicious virus
is killing indiscriminately and a tormented Bruce Wayne may
be its next victim.
Comments: The story has some nice plot twists as
Batman stumbles into a situation he may not be prepared to
handle, as well as some internal struggles with the motives
behind his “crusade”. Tan Eng Huat’s art, reminiscent of
Paul Pope and Micheal Golden, lends the story a measure of
grittyness that compliments the story well. I love Batman as
a character (Bruce’s internal struggles take an interesting
turn in this arc) but I still don’t know that this is enough
to bring me back to reading the Caped Crusader’s exploits on
a monthly basis-- the story will probably be more satisfying
as a TPB, which I would certainly purchase given the right
price.
