Battler Britton #1 (of 5)
Written by: Garth Ennis
Art by: Colin Wilson
Colors: Jeremy Cox
Painted Cover: Garry Leach
Plot: Set in the North African desert in 1942,
Commander Robert Britton is escorting his fighter crew to an
American base to reinforce their position. After a rocky
start with the Americans, both crews are sent on their first
mission and tensions rise as it doesn’t go as planned.
Review: Start off with a tough as nails British
officer, mix in a loyal crew, add a dash of tension, mix
well with colorful writing, engaging artwork and you have a
great Garth Ennis book. If I didn’t know any better I would
swear that Garth Ennis was a British fighter pilot during
WWII. He really has engaging and lively characters, and
while they are probably a little clichÈd, isn’t that a good
thing in a war comic? The art by Colin Wilson adds a
completely new dimension to an already wonderful story. I
would compare this comic to the first time I picked up
Preacher, but I am going to reserve that kind of judgment
for a few more issues. This is going in my box, and if the
series is even remotely as good as this first issue, we
could be getting another can’t miss comic from Garth Ennis
