Misty Night and Colleen Wing, of Nightwing Restorations, are bail bondswomen who specialize in superhumans. Having just apprehended their latest bail-jumper, the Rhino, the pair take on a new case involving four loser supervillains who just robbed from the wrong person. Misty and Colleen have their work cut out for them as they realize they’re not the only one’s looking for the four villains.

I initially wanted to check this book out after seeing some previews of the art and, upon reading this issue, was pleased to discover that it’s actually a really great book. It’s not too surprising considering it’s written by the talented duo, Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, who have turned out a number of great projects over the last few years. But they really kick things up a notch in this book, delivering some amazing action sequences, great characterization on the part of Colleen, Misty and the four loser supervillains, and a nice dose of humor, as well as horror. I was hooked in the first five pages, as soon as Misty… no, I won’t ruin it (though it was a sweet ride). Still, the first several pages are as fun to read as the best action sequences of your favorite action movie are to watch.

And Khari Evans… man, where did this guy come from?! Even if the story wasn’t as good as it is I’d still have to check out this book just for the amazing art that Evans delivers on just about every page. He draws great action, wonderfully expressive faces and very beautiful women. Sure it’s not perfect but this guy is one of the best new artists I’ve seen in some time and it’s a fair bet that I’ll be looking forward to seeing a lot more spectacular work from him. Christina Strain’s beautiful colors add a wonderful layer to the already great art. This is a really cool new mini-series and I’m definitely on board for the whole ride.
