DMZ #1
Writer: Brian Wood
Artists: Riccardo Burchielli and Brian Wood
Colors: Jeremy Cox
Letters: Jared K. Fletcher
Plot:
In the not so distant future, a civil war broke out
between the “United States of America” and the “Free
States”. A news crew is sent into the demilitarized zone of
New York City to document the horror that was once a city
and brings along an intern. The entire crew except the
intern is slaughtered and he is left inside the broken city
alone.
Review: DMZ has an interesting premise with multiple
opportunities to go off on any number of directions. Rather
than giving you an overall look into a new world that even
from the outside sounds pretty interesting, Brian Wood
chooses to drop the reader right down into the action and
give a first person perspective of how this type of world
would destroy the people in the middle. Riccardo Burchielli
and Brian Wood’s artwork only help to bring this world to
life and both the writing and art do a wonderful job of
immersing the reader into their world, making them anxious
to find out what happens next.
Special thanks go out to Jeremy Shorr, owner of Titan Comics for allowing us to use his advance preview books for review purposes.
