Fables #42
Writer - Bill Willingham
Pencils - Mark Buckingham
Inker - Steve Leialoha
Colors - Daniel Vozzo
Plot:
Fables is the story of a world populated with characters of
fables, fairy tales and other myths and legends, and more
specifically, how they all live in the capital city of Fable
City. This issue picks up with the Fazir from Arabian Nights
arriving in the capital.
Review: Arabian Days (and Nights) is the beginning of
a story arc but picks up directly in the middle of a comic
book series without any attempt to catch new readers up on
old story arcs or even some of the character back stories.
Without having ever read Fables before picking up this
issue, It didn’t take me long to pick up the gist of the
story. Unfortunately for me, there was a lot more going on
in this single issue than I was able to follow. The issue
seemed to be covering more than a few story lines at the
same time, all intertwined. I am sure if I was a regular
reader, I would have been able to follow along. Fable is a
beautiful comic to read and definitely seems to match the
artwork with its storytelling, but this is definitely not a
comic you can just jump into. So, if you are a regular
reader, you are probably aware of everything I am saying, if
you are a casual reader and are looking for a new comic to
pick up, this definitely seems worth it. Although you may
have to dig up quite a few back issues to know what it is
going on.
