Firestorm
#28
Writer: Stuart Moore
Penciller: Jamal Igle
Inker: Keith Champagne
Letterer: Travis Lanham
Jason Rusch and Professor Stein are reunited once more as
the hero called Firestorm. After battling a particularly
slippery foe, Jason receives an unwelcome visitor from his
past. Meanwhile, a mysterious and shadowy figure is plotting
the destruction of Firestorm and his allies.
Under the direction of Stuart Moore and Jamal Igle,
Firestorm seems to be as solid a
superhero comic as you’ll find on shelves. It’s accessible,
it’s got action, it’s got drama, it’s got an interesting
cast and the art is pretty damn good. But still I don’t find
myself wanting to read the book on a regular basis. Maybe
it’s just that I’m becoming less interested with superhero
books in general, especially when they don’t have anything
particularly new to say. And the character himself never
held much appeal for me in the first place.
It’s certainly not a bad book by any stretch. Fans of the
character are probably overjoyed at how good this book has
become. And if you’re just interested in good, solid
superhero stories then you’ll probably get a kick out of it
too. It may not be for me, but that doesn’t mean others
won’t thoroughly enjoy it.
And there is the fact that DC has been dropping hints for a
little while that events in the current Firestorm storyline
will eventually branch out to affect the entire DC Universe.
Could the next big DC Comics crossover be building up right
here? You might just want to check it out and see.
