Green
Arrow #53
Writer: William Messner-Loebs
Pencils: Eric Battle
Inks: Jack Purcell
Colorist: Guy Major
Letterer: Phil Balsman
Plot:
This fill-in issue finds Green Arrow facing of, once again,
with the deadly Solomon Grundy.
Comments:
This issue wasn’t that bad if what you’re looking for is
some old school, light-reading fare. It’s fun but not too
deep, with a neat twist towards the end that takes Ollie by
surprise and may have him screaming like a girl to escape
the over-sized, mouth breathing, Hulk wannabe Solomon Grundy
and an unexpected threat.
Like I said, it’s not too deep but it is fun-- William
Messner-Loebs has done a good job at writing a script a kid
or even a seasoned fanboy can enjoy.
The art by Eric Battle is really reminiscent of Neal Adams
and Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, with a smattering of Mark
Texiera-- and that’s cool in my book.
Special thanks go out to Jeremy Shorr, owner of Titan Comics for allowing us to use his advance preview books for review purposes.
