A
Man Called Kev #1 (of 5)
Writer: Garth Ennis
Draws: Carlos Ezquerra
Colors: David Baron
Letters: Phil Balsman
Plot: An ex-British soldier, scarred by the loss of
fellow soldiers to the IRA and the backlash of Irish
citizens to his presence, leaves the military and becomes a
contract hit man for hire. When he finds out he is no longer
wanted in England he has to get out of the country while
saving his best friend and coworker.
Review: This Garth Ennis book contains all of the
trademarks of a good Ennis book set in modern times.
Violence, male ass nudity, cursing, and plenty of British
slang. One thing is bothering me though. Although this is
the first issue in a series, it seems to be too much Garth
Ennis. The British slang was a little too thick to allow me
to slide into the plot and the characters. The cursing was
fine and good, but is there an official limit to the amount
of male ass nudity in the first issue of a comic. I suppose
though that it is Garth Ennis. Maybe it will even out and
turn into a pretty good book. His reality based comics are
usually worth checking out the first few issues if nothing
else but to see if they are to your liking. The first issue
doesn’t compare to the sheer brilliance of the first issue
of another recent release of his,
Battler Britton
but I think you should at least check out the first few
issues. I am not the type of guy to give up on Garth after
one issue.
