Plastic Man #19

Writer/Artist: Kyle Baker

Plot: Ra’s Al Guhl has the ashes of Plastic Man’s friends and family and is threatening to blow their ashes away if Plastic Man does not do his bidding. When Plastic Man refuses, he sees Ra’ s Al Guhl’s most formidable weapon, his “shirtless fighting” skill.

Review: This book pokes fun at formulaic superhero comic plotlines with plenty of in jokes and bizarre plot twists to keep fans and the first time reader giggling throughout the book. The art is very basic but actually fits the almost Mad magazine type of humor that seems to permeate every page of this issue. This is a fun read, and if this issue is any indicator, a series you should pick up, if only to break the monotony of the seriousness of the rest of the comics in your stack. My only complaint would be the 5 page advertisement comic that DC chose to throw in the middle of the comic. It doesn’t fit and actually could throw off the pages following the advertisement.
