Sensational Spider-Man #26
Artist: Clayton Crain
Writer: Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa
Plot:
"Feral" Part 4.
It seems Spidey isn't the only one in a transitional period.
Lately, all of Spider-Man's animal-based adversaries have
been going crazy. The Lizard, Puma, Vermin, Man-Wolf; even
Black Cat and the Vulture, who are completely human with
animal hang-ups, are being affected. Spidey seeks out the
counsel of Madame Webb to find out what's the cause of the
mania that's affecting them. He finds there's something that
ties them all together, making them feral, and the only
reason he is mostly unaffected is that his core personality
is more decent.
Meanwhile, Vermin has tracked down the Lizard and the animal
in both of them have taken over. As Spidey intercepts them
and tries to help Dr. Connors, he learns the source of the
curse.
Review:
Once again, Clayton Crain's art is amazing. The interior art
is done in the same painted style as his covers. I like his
work a lot, but I'm not a fan of his take on the Lizard, who
looks like an alligator. The story is fairly decent, but
there are a couple of oddities in it I hope are resolved by
the end of the arc. I can understand why Lizard, Vermin,
Man-Wolf and the hybrid guys would be affected by this, but
why Black Cat and Vulture?
It's not a bad arc, but I really haven't been able to get
much into Sensational Spider-Man since they brought it back.
It's a title I would definitely suggest to a hardcore Spidey
fan, but to those who are a little indifferent to him, you
can get away with missing it. If you're not into Civil War,
though, this one is relatively free of it. Minus the new
costume, of course. Personally, this one is not a buy for me
for two reasons. I don't feel it compelling enough to buy
the trade, hence I wouldn't buy the single issues. Secondly,
nothing really important to the characters has happened so
far, and unless something does, I can't justify a buy of
that issue.
Basically, if you REALLY like Spider-Man and are in need of
a fix until the next Amazing issue, pick it up.
