Sentinel
#1 (of 5)
Story: Sean McKeever
Pencils and Inks: Joe Vriens
Colors: Kevin Yan and Udon Coloring
Letterer: VC’s Joe Carmagna
Plot: Sentinel picks up where the original series of the
same name left off. If you are not a follower of the
original series before it was cancelled, a handy recap helps
fill in the blanks. In this issue, Juston, and the Sentinel
have disappeared from the town of Ladysmith, Wisconsin and
are searching for his estranged mother. The entire town is
searching for him along with members of the Commission for
Superhuman Activities. The town is searching for their hero,
the Commission is looking to destroy his Sentinel.
Review: I never read the original Sentinel series but the
recap before the issue brought me up to date pretty quickly.
The first issue spends most of it’s time capturing the
relationship between the boy and his robot, while setting up
the conflict for the next few issues in the last few pages.
The extremely stylized art of Joe Vriens actually distracted
me from the story, which seemed to be written for pre-teens.
This comic is not for the average reader, and I think you
would probably have to be a fan of the original series to
get into it.
