In
this landmark 100th issue (celebrating 100 issues of
She-Hulk solo comics including Savage She-Hulk, Sensational
She-Hulk and last years critically acclaimed adjective-less
She-Hulk series) She-Hulk is put on trial by the Time
Variance Authority for mucking about with the timestream in
issue 2. In order to save her from being erased from history
the law firm where She-Hulk works sends the very best lawyer
to represent her and character witnesses are pulled from
every point in She-Hulk’s past to testify on her behalf.
It’s rare to see a big, celebrated anniversary issue these
days. It’s even more rare to see a big anniversary issue
fall on such an odd number, being that this is only the
third issue of the new She-Hulk mini-series. But if you add
up all of She-Hulk’s solo comics from the Savage She-Hulk,
the Sensational She-Hulk, the 12 issues of Dan Slott’s
critically acclaimed previous She-Hulk series and the three
issues of Slott’s current series you indeed get 100 issues.
And Slott celebrates the anniversary in grand style with an
oversized issue packed with guest appearances, flashbacks
and glimpses of the future. It’s a true celebration of the
character, complete with nods to all her various
incarnations, explaining just why She-Hulk is such a unique
and irreplaceable character. This issue is also packed with
a ton of amazing guest artists providing their unique take
on the character throughout her long history.
One of the things that makes She-Hulk a particular favorite
of mine is the way Slott weaves the grand history of the
Marvel Universe into each and every story while managing to
keep each story from alienating new readers. No issue of the
series better exemplifies his ability to do so than this
one. If you haven’t jumped onto the bandwagon with this gem
of a comic series there’s really no better time to do so
than with issue 3… or is it 100?
