Silent
Dragon #2
Writer: Andy Diggle
Pencils: Leinil Francis Yu
Inker: Gerry Alanguilan
Colorist: Dave Stewart
In the first issue of Silent Dragon we were introduced to
Renjiro, one of the top advisors to Lord Hideaki, leader of
the powerful Yakuza gang, Black Dragon Clan. Renjiro is
branded as a traitor by Hideaki and forced to commit suicide
while Hideaki’s wife, secretly in love with Renjiro, is
forced to watch.
In this second issue Renjiro awakens in an artificial dream
where he is informed that his mind has been transferred into
a state-of-the-art combat body by the government, wishing to
use Renjiro to infiltrate and bring down the Black Dragon
Clan. Meanwhile the Black Dragon’s are busy consolidating
their power in a big way and young gangster wannabe Suki
Suzuki tries her best to convince the Black Dragon’s to hire
her on.
First off let me say that this is a gorgeous, gorgeous book.
Leinil Yu is really pulling out all the stops to make this
one hell of a good-looking book. The story was a little slow
to start, but in the second issue things really start
picking up. If you thought there wasn’t enough action in the
first issue, this issue certainly begins to make up for it.
I think this story will continue to pick up speed as it goes
on and I’m looking forward to the ride. And man is it
pretty. Did I say that already?
