Spider-Man
Special:
Black and Blue and Read
All Over #1
Writer: Jim Krueger
Penciller: Drew Johnson
Inker: Tom Palmer
Letterer: Artmonkey’s Dave Lanphear
Plot: Weighed down by the realization that he really
isn’t making a difference and that he may even be a crutch
to the people he means to help, Peter Parker decides to
reveal his true identity to the city but only after J. J.
Jameson prints Spiderman’s side of the story. Also, included
in this issue is an early Stan Lee/Steve Ditko Spiderman
comic featuring Dr. Octopus.
Review: Although chronologically this is set before
Marvel’s big run, Civil War, the emotional impact of the
story is lessened by the fact that we already know that
Peter Parker has outed himself. The art was nothing to write
home about and the story, while possibly poignant in another
day and time, seems kind of pointless now. This is just a
filler issue while Marvel tries to figure out when its next
Civil War issue will come out. There really is no reason to
pick this issue up. Take this little breather from the
Marvel Universe and try something new.
