Superman: Secret Files and Origins 2005
Writers: Devin K Grayson, Jami Bernard, Christine Boylan
Pencils/Inks/Art: Ariel Olivetti, Renato Guedes,
Carlos Ferreiera,
Drew Geraci
Lettering: Travis Lanham, Nick Napolitano, Phil Balsam
Plot:
Four separate stories interspersed with quick bios of
Superman, the Daily Planet, Ruin, Blackrock, Lex Luthor, and
Lois Lane. The first is a look at the Superman/Batman
argument between a group of grade school kids and their
impression of superheroes, the second is an example of Lois
Lane’s headstrong effort to get at the truth and her
obliviousness to the obvious. The third is a strange origin
story of Bizarro Superman, and the fourth is the origin of
the second Fortress of Solitude.
Review: The stories in this issue of Secret Files are
pretty hit or miss. The first story is an explanation of
Superman’s purpose through the innocent eyes of grade school
children. The perspective that tends to get lost when
creators tend to look at Superman in a more serious light.
It is a fun little read. The rest of the stories are a fun
read but you could survive without reading them. Pick it up
for the first story.
