Wolverine #36 - Origins and Endings Part 1 (of 5)

Writer: Daniel Way
Breakdowns: Javier Saltares
Finishes: Mark Texeira
Colors: J.D. Smth

Plot: After the House of M series, Wolverine, who was the only mutant to retain his memory of the entire event, is in Japan to track down a government official. The Avengers and team S.H.I.E.L.D. learn that the memories unlocked go much farther back than the House of M and that Wolverine may be on the verge of unlocking his own history. While tracking the government official he runs into an old enemy, the Silver Samurai.

Review: Despite being a typical X-book and having to wade through the 400 or so pages of advertisements to find the story, I actually enjoyed the first book of this series. Wolverine is doing what he does best, rushing headlong into trouble to achieve his goal, regardless of the consequences. The stakes seem to be raised quite a bit and this issue actually addresses the conspiracy against Wolverine to keep him in the dark about his history. The art is dark, almost to the point of not being able to see what is going on, but the storyline is important to the character and could very possibly opens new doors for the X-Men member. Let’s just hope that this isn’t some red herring that leads nowhere and is just a waste of time for everyone involved.
