Wolverine Origins #5
Writer: Daniel Way
Artist: Steve Dillon
Colorist: Dan Kemp
Letterer: VC’s Randy Gentile
Plot: (spoilers ahead): Issue #5 starts out in
an all out brawl between Captain America and Wolverine. When
other members of the X-Men stop the fight Emma Frost revels
to Wolverine that not only is his son alive and well, but
that he too is being used by the government. This leads
Logan through a flashback into a part of his life involving
the death of the woman he loved at the hands of.. (wait for
it).. Sabertooth.
Review: First of all, I like Steve Dillon’s art, just
not in this book. His art makes a sometimes very violent
book look almost like a cartoonish Marvel all ages book. The
result is off-putting and I think takes away some of the
hard edge and credibility of the writing, and the writing in
this book could use all the help it can get. Logan’s
melodramatic one liners makes me wish he would shove that
sword he seems to be so fond of into his mouth. The dialogue
of the other characters isn’t much better and would probably
be better placed in an unrated “Mary Worth” comic. The story
is horrible. Bad even. Throw it all together and this book
really is unreadable, especially if you have any respect for
arguably Marvel’s coolest superhero. You would think his
creators would take better care of him. Just sad.
