Melanie
Moore was just an ordinary teenager until the night a
mysterious stranger, dying from battle wounds, bestowed upon
her the power of the Wraithborn. In the second issue of this
mini series Melanie tries to deal with the strange things
she’s been seeing since that night and wonders if she might
be going insane. We’re also introduced to a powerful being
named Brigit, the woman responsible for the death of the
last Wraithborn.
Let me just say up front that I really don’t have any strong
feelings about this book one way or another. It’s simply not
my type of book. While the story seems somewhat interesting
it’s hardly original. I do like that the books female
protagonist is an introverted, bookish nerd, which is
usually a role reserved for male characters. Though I could
do without her talking out loud to herself every few pages
in order to explain exactly what she’s thinking or doing.
This book is much more about the art than the story actually
Joe Benitez certainly does draw some really beautiful and
intricately detailed comics.
I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who’s a fan
of books like Witchblade and The Darkness, or someone who is
just looking for a really pretty comic. But if you want an
original story or standout writing … move along.
