Young
Avengers #9
Writer: Allan Heinberg
Penciller: Jim Cheung
Inkers: Dave Meikis, John Dell, Jim Cheung
Colors: Justin Posnor
Plot: The Young Avengers future as a group is in
question as their leader, Patriot, refuses to rejoin the
group when an embarrassing secret about his superpowers is
revealed, Iron Man and Captain America are asking for them
to disband, and they are getting closer to the prospect of
having to let their families in on their secret identities.
In this issue they try to deal with the possibilities of
disbanding the group for good and the Hulkling is forced to
deal with his origin, the result of which could either bring
the group together or pull them farther apart.
Review: Funny thing about this book, the art is top
notch, and the action is fun and keeps the story moving, but
the thing I enjoyed most about this book is the character
interaction and the tension building within the group. Some
other comics I have read that try to pull this off on a
regular basis in my opinion seem to come across as flat and
just filler between fights, but this book pulls it off
pretty well and I actually care more about how the team
members are going to overcome their personal problems than
whether or not they are going to be able to defeat the
monster of the moment. Bravo. This is a really good book,
for reasons that I think will elevate it above most other
books on the shelf. Check it out and you just find yourself
wrapped up in a pretty involving little human drama.
