END OF LINE

Well, it’s the end of the road. I’ve had a lot of fun doing the column for the past two years. I’ve also had a lot of frustration. Sometimes it felt like I had completely run out of things to say about comics and when you’re writing a column about comics, well, that’s a bad thing. Luckily those times were few and far between. For the most part I am extremely proud of The Bum’s Rush and I’m especially proud of the fact that this column was up on the site each and every week, rain or shine. But now it’s time to bow out, time to focus on bigger and better things. Time to put my money where my mouth is and start producing comics instead of talking about them. Who knows… maybe someday someone will be talking about my work in their column about comics. Hopefully they’ll be nicer to me than I was to some of comics I talked about in The Bum’s Rush.

Now, now… wipe away those tears. I know that nothing will ever be able to take the place of The Bum’s Rush as your favorite internet column about comics but I thought I’d do you a favor and try to ease your pain by pointing out some of my favorite columns and websites dedicated to comics. Please to enjoy:

Flogging A Dead Horse - It’s been a while since a new one has reared it’s ugly head but Flogging, written by comic-scribe Paul Jenkins, is one of the funniest and most entertaining columns I’ve ever read.

Lying In The Gutters - I’m not the biggest fan of Rich Johnston but no one has the inside scoop on the comics biz like this guy does. Sometimes it’s a little too much of a gossip-rag, but if you want to know the latest rumors about comics that are most likely going to end up fact this is the place to go.

All The Rage - The original internet comic book rumor column. Not as good as Johnston’s LITG but still full of cool information and great interviews. In fact, I believe this is where Johnston started out.

Newsarama - My favorite source of comic book news and interviews. They tend to be a little Marvel-happy sometimes but there’s still no better source for the latest and biggest news about comics.

Blog@Newsarama - Filled with tons of up-to-the-minute comic news and links culled from across the internet.

So there you go, a few morsels to tide you over until you somehow manage to fill the empty hole left behind by the departure of The Bum’s Rush. Oh sure, there’s tons more great comic book columns and sites out there. Go exploring, dig deep and find all of the wonderful comic-related sites and blogs. It’s a fair bet that if you’ve got a favorite creator, he’s got a blog. So run along and do some exploring across this great big country made of wires and electronic signals. Maybe it will take your mind off the pain.

But probably not.
