The Weigh In Dana Place

#100

This week in my world:

As the title suggests, this is issue number 100. This also marks my last stab as your humble host here at the Weigh In. One hundred articles about movies, television, or pretty much whatever happened to grab my attention that week. It has been a wonderful ride.

A little about my future. I will continue to be working for the website as more of an administrative editor, working on whatever creative endeavor we are putting together to promote the group as a whole. I am going to poke my head out from behind the scenes occasionally to talk about whatever I am working on creatively. In the next few weeks you will see a slight change to the site that will include a personal page where I will talk about all things me. I will also be at http://bigdpimpin.livejournal.com/ if you want to stop in and say hi. You can always reach me at DPlace76@yahoo.com. I wouldn’t mind hearing from you on occasion. Let me know how you are doing.

And now for something a little different.

My little Office Space Haikus:

Stuck at work all day
Hypnosis lets you sleep late
Let the alarm ring

Michael you were first
Who cares if he is well known
Michael Bolton sucks

Arab with a long name
Nag-heen-an-an-a something
I will call you Ned

Hot waitress with flair
Who cares if you fucked Lumbergh
You have a nice rack

Neighbor through thin walls
You can hear all of his plans
Would you like a beer?

TPS reports
Stapled at the wrong angle
Everyone hates you

Your trusty Swingline
Your desk in a storage room
Burn the office down

I wanted to end this week with one of my favorite poems. Whenever I wonder why I don’t just go to work, come home, relax and repeat, I just remember what this poem means to me. Regardless of what happens to all of us here at the site and those of you that check us out on a regular basis, I hope you just remember that it isn’t always about any of our ultimate goals. Sometimes the journey can be just as exciting. I hope you have all enjoyed this little diversion in the woods I like to call the Weigh In and I hope we have many more in the future. Regardless of where we ultimately end up.

ROAD LESS TRAVELED

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth

Then took the other as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet, knowing how way leads onto way
I doubted if I should ever come back

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence
Two roads diverged in a wood
And I took the one less traveled by
And that has made all the difference

This weekend at your local multiplex (6/1/2007)

Knocked Up: Comedy
Katherine Heigl, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, Jason Segel
Plot: A slacker schlub (Rogen) ends up in a drunken romp with a hot blonde (Heigl), and gets her pregnant. Comedic hijinks ensue.
Buzz: Predicted by quite a few to be the sleeper comedy of the year. Everyone I’ve talked to that has seen advanced screenings of this show absolutely glows about it. I will be in line to check this one out. Although, I have to admit I am a little confused. I have heard of women getting pregnant to keep a guy, but I have never heard of a guy getting a woman pregnant because he wanted to keep sleeping with her. Maybe I am just misreading the trailer.

Mr. Brooks: Thriller
Kevin Costner, William Hurt, Demi Moore, Dane Cook
Plot: Costner plays a man with a split personality. One half business man and all around nice guy, the other is a psychopathic killer. While he struggles to contain his impulses he is being hounded by a police officer, a killer in training and an associate who wants to keep him in the game.
Buzz: While Kevin Costner as a dual minded serial killer sounds interesting, I can’t get past the Dane Cook factor of this movie. Whatever. May make a nice rental if I remember the film in 6 months.

Gracie: Drama
Elizabeth Shue, Carly Schroeder, Dermot Mulroney, Jesse Lee Sofer
Plot: Based on aspects of Elizabeth Shue’s life, Gracie follows a teenage girl who overcomes immense tragedy to play girl’s soccer.
Buzz: Oh wow, I really couldn’t be less interested in this film. Unless Shue is topless (and at this point in her career her best days are behind her), I may just have to pass on this one.

This week on DVD (5/29/2007)

Hannibal Rising
Ichi the Killer (Blood Pack)
The Foursome
Rawhide (season 2)
