Plot: Former N-Sync star Justin Timberlake makes his
acting debut in this gritty crime thriller, playing a young
journalist who uncovers massive police corruption in the
town of Edison. He joins forces with his cynical mentor
(Morgan Freeman, MILLION DOLLAR BABY), as well as an
investigator for the district attorney's office (Kevin
Spacey, AMERICAN BEAUTY), in order to take on the criminal
element in the force, which has until now been implicitly
sanctioned. Co-starring are Cary Elwes (SAW), Dylan
McDermott (THE PRACTICE), and L.L. Cool J (S.W.A.T.).
Review: I had heard some buzz online about this
movie, but really knew nothing about it. With the caliber of
star power I expected it to be released in theaters and when
I saw it hit video shelves I became worried. I decided to
give it a chance strictly based on the actors in it and came
away somewhat puzzled.
The film’s story is nothing original or special, but it is
decent. Through the first part of this film I found myself
somewhat worried that it was going to go down hill fast. As
the movie moves on it gets better and better. By the end of
the film, I really liked it. What saved this movie was the
cast. All of them give really good performances, including
Justin Timberlake in his first acting gig. There is some
decent action and interesting plot twists, but nothing
really special about it. I enjoyed this film as a whole, but
would have been somewhat disappointed if I had seen it in
the theatre. Not because it was bad, but because I expected
more from such a strong cast.
