Review: First Round is a fan film put together by Get Me
Out of Jersey Pictures and Corey Sosner. The 13 minute short
was originally put together as an audition piece for the
original Marvel film and with a little prodding from his
friends, this fan film was born. The production is high
quality for an independent fan film and the creators managed
to get the feel and look of the Marvel comic pretty close to
dead on. The secondary actors, while a little stiff, pull
off their parts pretty well and aren’t a distraction from
the real action in the film. The producers pull off live
action versions of The Punisher, Wolverine, and kingpin
pretty well considering they didn’t have the benefit of
thousands of head shots to sift through. The opening credits
are done with a professional comic book style and really add
credibility to the movie before it even begins. The action
is fluid, the special effects are impressive for a short fan
film, and they all blend pretty well, making the grit and
grime all the more realistic in the Punisher’s world.
