Hollow Man 2 (2006)
Christian Slater
Peter Facinelli
Laura Regan
William McDonald
Directed by Claudio Faeh
Plot: This sequel to Paul Verhoeven's 2000
blockbuster sees Christian Slater replacing Kevin Bacon as
the titular assassin. The result of a top-secret military
experiment gone awry, the Hollow Man is an invisible,
unstoppable killing machine, and he has his sights firmly
set on a Seattle detective (William MacDonald, SLITHER) and
a biologist (Laura Regan, THEY, MY LITTLE EYE). Now, the
pair must somehow manage to find their predator before he
finds them, while staying clear of the government forces who
are close on their tail.
Review: I am going to be honest, I somewhat enjoyed
the first Hollow Man. I didn’t think it was a great movie,
but I enjoyed it. I had no clue a second one was even being
made and didn’t really see a need in it, but I figured why
not give it a try.
The movie is your typical straight to video sequel, not as
good as the original. The story line is decent and the
acting is ok, but the film just seemed to miss something. I
found myself somewhat bored at times. The only time this
film was decent was during the scenes with the ‘Invisible
Man’. They pull off some interesting effects and sequences.
The one thing I found kind of cool is the fact you hardly
see Christian Slater in the movie. He plays the invisible
man and is invisible the whole time. You only see him twice
in the movie and it’s very brief, the rest of the time you
just hear his voice. Unfortunately, this tended to hurt the
movie to me, I wanted to see more of the transformations and
effects. The movie is an ok direct-to-dvd sequel, but
nothing really special.
