Plot: Cleveland Heep, a modest building manager, rescues a
mysterious young woman from danger and discovers she is
actually a narf--a character from a bedtime story who is
trying to make the treacherous journey from our world back
to hers. Cleveland and his fellow tenants start to realize
that they are also characters in this bedtime story. As
Cleveland falls deeper and deeper in love with the woman, he
works together with the tenants to protect his new fragile
friend from the deadly creatures that reside in this fable
and are determined to prevent her from returning home.
Review: I am a big fan of all of M. Night’s films. I find
him to be a brilliant filmmaker and one of the most original
out there. His casts are always amazing and the stories are
always interesting. Due to me being such a big fan, this
movie was one of my must-sees this year. The trailer and the
poster looked absolutely amazing.
The cast and their performances in this film are great.
Visually the film looks great. The story is interesting and
original. Unfortunately this film falls short. To be honest
I really don’t know why. I was all intrigued in the film’s
story, but then it ended and I was lost. I felt like I had
just taken a long magical journey to see an empty cardboard
box. I didn’t hate the movie; I just felt it was missing
something.
My personal opinion is that M. Night told the story he
wanted to tell, but seems to be the only one who knows what
that is. I plan to watch this movie again to see if I missed
something, but overall I was disappointed. For those fans of
M. Night, I think you will be disappointed in this film;
everyone else will have to make their own judgment.
