New Police Story (2006)
Jackie Chan
Nicholas Tse
Daniel Wu
Charlene Choi
Directed by Benny Chan
Plot:
Massive explosions and incredible stunts abound as Jackie
Chan makes what many refer to as a comeback with this
Chinese release. He plays the burned-out Inspector Wing,
whose motivation died when the rest of his police team was
wiped out at the hands of a wily and brutal new gang. When,
against the odds, a rookie cop rouses the weathered
Inspector to go after the gang, however, there is no
stopping him until justice has been served.
Review: Jackie Chan is back! After a strong American
start with films like Rush Hour 1 & 2, Shanghi Noon, &
Shanghi Knights, Jackie started to fall short. After
releasing The Medallion and The Tuxedo I was starting to
wonder if we would ever see Jackie Chan again. After much
worry and searching I found him!
Jackie Chan returns to his Asian cinema roots and reinvents
one his most popular film series, Police Story. Not only
does this film have the classic Jackie Chan fight scenes,
but a new side of him that I never seen. He gives a very
emotional performance; one that I believe is the best of his
career. When you think of Jackie Chan, you think great
fighting, crazy stunts, and comedy. In this film you get
all, but the comedy. There are funny moments, but overall
this is a very emotional story. When I finished watching
this movie, I had that feeling again after seeing him for
the first time. What was even cooler to me is one of the
extras on the DVD. You can watch Jackie actually dubbing the
English version of this film and see his frustration when
trying to redo everything in English. I think this is not
only the best Chan film in a while, I believe this is his
best overall film to date.
