Plot: This horrific installment in Clive Barker's
nightmarish oeuvre pits young against old in an unholy
battle waged the world over. James Van Der Beek stars as Tom
Russell, an ex-convict whose release from prison coincides
with the awakening of teenagers all over the globe. Ten
years before, children were universally afflicted by a
mysterious plague that has since kept them trapped in a
coma. Now, upon rejoining the living, the teens possess
strange powers and a thirst for blood.
Review: First off I could care less about James Van
Der Beek. The only real interest I had in this movie was
Clive Barker’s name on it. I haven’t seen a good Clive
Barker movie, or any for that matter, in a long time. I saw
the trailer and it looked interesting so I took a chance.
The movie has an interesting story line, but unfortunately
goes nowhere. With all the build up, I really expected more,
I would have been happy with a “tough crap this is the way
everything is” ending instead of what I got. The overall
performances were decent enough, but nothing to brag about.
My biggest issue was the gore factor. Clive Barker is known
to have gory films. I know he didn’t direct it, but with his
name on it, I assume he had some pull. There are numerous
moments for some great gore and there are just forgotten
about. Overall it’s an ok film, but does not live up to the
Clive Barker name.
