Review:
Saw
II picks up when another victim of the serial killer,
Jigsaw, is found and one of the detectives is taunted into
chasing him. This movie takes the same approach as the first
film, inter-cutting two different but somehow connected
scenarios to keep the movie moving forward and building
tension by revealing enough clues from each to push it
towards its conclusion. The traps and puzzles in this movie
are more elaborate, more fun to watch unfold, and ultimately
gorier than the original. The editing keeps this movie
moving at a pretty frantic pace, jumping between stressful
head games, intricate puzzles, and some pretty intricate
murders. Ultimately though, walking out of the theater I
couldn’t help but feel that, although it was bigger and more
impressive than the original, I wouldn’t remember anything
about this
movie
in
the morning. The original movie was unique, with twists and
turns and an ending that stuck with you. Although gorier and
more violent, Saw II is just another horror film that is not
really memorable, may give you a jump or two, but you could
just as easily check out on dvd and not really miss
anything.
