Plot: Superman, about to finally divulge his identity
and his feelings to Lois Lane, suddenly finds his mighty
hands full when Brainiac, a powerful computer, bent on
universal domination and Lex Luthor team up to defeat him.
Armed with new weapons and a special strain of kryptonite
infused in his body, Brainiac becomes the most powerful
enemy The Man of Steal has ever faced. When Lois Lane is
critically injured by a force beam that was intended for
him, Superman must race into the mysterious Phantom Zone to
find a cure. Brainiac, believing Superman to be dead,
betrays Lex Luthor and begins his attack on the city of
Metropolis and ultimately Earth. Will Superman survive the
Phantom Zone in order to defeat his deadly foes, save Lois
and Metropolis?
Review: After the cancellation of Justice League and
Teen Titans, I was very upset. Being a long time comic fan,
those were some of the shows I really looked forward too.
When I heard a new Superman animate movie was coming, I
turned back into the little kid and got excited again.
I personally think Superman and Batman were 2 of the best
animated comic adaptations ever. This movie has a good story
and plenty of action. Tim Daly, who voiced Superman on the
original series, returns and blends right back in. Although
I really liked this movie, I still had some issues. My
biggest beef comes with the casting of Powers Booth as Lex
Luthor. He’s not bad, but he’s just not Clancy Brown. As far
as I am concerned in the animated world, Clancy Brown is Lex.
Booth’s Lex came off very laid back and campy. It was a real
issue to get past the voice difference and focus on the
movie. My other issue comes with the behavior of Lex and
Lois. Neither of them acted they way they normally act. I am
not sure if the film was meant to come off this way, but it
really seems to be independent and in no way connected to
the original series other that the animation style. The
movie is still good, but could have been better.
