Plot: The world's crises have gone unheeded for five
long years since Superman's mysterious disappearance.
Without him, crime has risen in the city of Metropolis and
beyond; that's not even counting the future destructive acts
of Lex Luthor, who has been sprung from prison with the
specific intent of using Superman's technological secrets
for his own personal gain and glory. Lois Lane, star
reporter for the Daily Planet and the love of Superman's
life, has moved on since Superman left without a word. She
has even won a Pulitzer Prize for her essay, "Why the World
Doesn't Need Superman." Lois has other issues to contend
with--she is now engaged to the editor's nephew and has a
young son to look after. But for Superman, the long search
for his place in the universe ends back at the Kent farm,
among the only family he has ever known. His destiny lies in
Metropolis, where one look in Lois's eyes tell him that this
place, among the flawed but ultimately good people of Earth,
is his true home. And with Lex's plan coming to fruition
mere hours after his return, the world will never need
Superman more than it does now.
Review: I am a huge comic fan, but was never really
into Superman. I liked Superman 1 & 2 and enjoyed all of the
Justice League stuff. On a separate note, I love comic
related movies of all kinds and get all giddy to see all of
them, good or bad. With Bryan Singer at the helm, I had no
doubt that this movie would be a home run, but still went in
very careful.
Overall I really liked this movie. I had various issues
going in, the biggest being the suit change. The change in
the suit ended up being nothing to me once I started
watching the film itself. The story was good and the acting
was superb. I felt a little bothered when I heard it was
supposed to be a continuation from Superman 2, but when I
saw it, it made the film that much better. The effects and
cinematography was amazing only rivaled by the Spider-man
series. I think new comer not only played Superman
brilliantly, but also played a great homage to Christopher
Reeve. His likeness alone to Christopher Reeve was almost
creepy at times, but at the same time added to the film.
Kevin Spacey played Lex Luthor with an evil madness that was
always missing from the character. There isn’t a lot of
action in this movie, but just the right amount. I really
enjoyed the way the story is not a retelling of the origin
we all know, but it is still a good starting point for fans.
Although not a huge Superman fan, I really enjoyed this
movie and look forward to the sequel Superman: The Man of
Steel.
