Derek Jacobi
Bill Nighy
Directed by Len Wiseman
Plot: With the exposure of well-kept secrets and the tough
resolve of one betrayed Vampire warrior, a centuries-long
struggle between vicious predators has reached new heights
of fierceness. But it's one Immortal's insatiable lust for
power that leads to disturbing new disclosures about the
origins of the feud between the Vampires and the Lycans. The
past just got very twisted, and the future may reveal an
entirely new breed, the likes of which no one has ever seen.
Hunted vampire Selene seeks out Marcus, king of the
Vampires, in the hope of bargaining for her life. Hybrid
Michael wants to join Selene in her quest but is unable to
trust the werewolf raging uncontrolled inside him, and she
refuses his companionship. Their love proves more powerful
than genetics, however, when Marcus descends upon Selene,
intent on annihilating her. In the battle that ensues,
Selene discovers that she has been betrayed by her own
family and sets out to seek her revenge
Review: I was a big fan of the first Underworld and have a
fascination with anything involving werewolves. The first
Underworld was mindless fun, with great battles between
werewolves and vampires, but with a modern twist. I didn’t
have high hopes for this sequel, due to it being put
together so quickly, but luckily it wasn’t the train wreck I
expected.
I actually really enjoyed this film. The film picks up where
the last film left off and takes the story onto a bigger
playing field. My biggest issue with sequels is everyone
tends to try and do the same thing again only to ruin what
was once so great, not with this film. The action and
effects are taken to another level. The director wasn’t shy
about killing off people in the first few minutes of the
film. He didn’t just do it for shock, but because it was
part of the story. They were good about continuing the
previous story, but bringing a whole new story into the mix.
I was a little disappointed by the lack of werewolves in
this film, but that is probably due to my previously
mentioned love for them. They were there, but seemed to be
lacking compared the previous film. There seemed to be a few
holes in the story, but nothing that really affected its
progress for me. Overall I really enjoyed this film and
recommend it to those fans of action, vampires, or werewolf
fans.
