Peter Sallis-Wallace (voice)
Ralph Fiennes-Victor Quartermaine (voice)
Helena Bonham Carter-Lady Campanula Tottington (voice)
Directed by: Steve Box and Nick Park
Written by: Bob Baker and Steve Box
Plot:
Wallace and his silent sidekick Gromit are making a
pretty brisk business catching rabbits with the Anti-Pesto
Pest Control Service during the days leading up to the
town’s Annual Great Vegetable Competition. While trying to
protect the town humanely, their home is overrun with
rabbits. Wallace’s attempt to alleviate the problem
backfires and releases a horrible beast on the town’s prize
vegetables. Wallace becomes smitten with Lady Tottington,
complicating the duo’s efforts to catch the wild beast.
Review: Whether or not you have seen Aardman’s short
films, “A Grand Day Out”, “The Wrong Trousers”,
and “A Close Shave” all featuring Wallace and Gromit,
and enjoyed their 2000 full length feature
“Chicken Run”, you are in for a 90 minute treat. The
look and the feel of the movie is a children’s movie, but
the preview I went to had people from 9 to 90 and everyone
seemed to be having a wonderful time. Mixed with humor
children could enjoy was a more subtle adult humor that
involved more than a one-liner shot over their heads.
Aardman Studios puts the time since it’s last film to good
use. The characters are more lifelike, the action is more
seamless and you actually forget as you watch the movie that
you are watching lumps of clay.
The most important reason to see this movie is the warm
fuzzy feeling it gave me. The movie is fun, fast paced, and
made me chuckle out loud more than a few times, but I walked
away with a big smile on my face because I couldn’t help but
totally enjoy the movie as an experience. This is one I’ll
own on DVD, and I highly suggest everyone check it out if
not only to walk away feeling a little better than you did
when you walked in.
