Architecture in Helsinki "In Case We Die"
Indie pop army from Australia. There are eight people in the band, officially, and more on the record and it sounds like it. And the employ, I think, every instrument known to man. Marimba, vibraphone, bassoon, theremin, musical saw, hand and power tools, and a freakin’ recorder! But don't get too excited, there are guitars, drums, etc., all on here. It's in the vein of chamber pop in that there is a high appreciation for production values and a full sound. That sound is a sonic boom of some of the most fun tunes you've ever heard. Most are dance worthy, in a really child like way, meaning that they don't make you want to cha-cha or waltz. They don't even make you want to pogo or skank. They just fill you with energy and make you want to move around the room, or lie on the bed and talk on the phone to your girlfriend when you were in high school. If they made music like this when I was in my teens I wouldn't be the miserable person you see before you today. I was subjected to grunge from dreary Seattle- not the sharply produced pop greatness from Oz.
Standout tracks: IT'5, Wishbone, Do The Whirlwind, The Cemetery
For Fans Of: children's choirs, happiness, sunshine, girls who sound 12 when they sing.
Fun Fact: I stayed home from the show to write this review!
