Coco Rosie "Noah's Ark"
Coco Rosie is actually two formerly estranged sisters who reunited and bonded over their love of music. Thank God they worked out their differences. The album is a collection of near nonsense lyrics (that's being generous, 'cause I like them) and neo-folk/electronic hybrid music. Oh, and amateur cover art featuring a three way sex session with a unicorn, horse and zebra who appears to be sneezing rainbow colored snot drops. With boobs that have pierced nipples and a unicorn horn. That looks like a 5 year old drew it. It's a perfect advertisement for the music inside, too. This is just the kind of thing I live for - something so original and well done that it's like a litmus test of who gets it and who doesn't. Not that if you don't like it you're out of the club, more like if you do then we have our own special connection.
As stated above, the music could be classified as neo-folk, which is a style that seems to be making its name in the indie rock scene lately. But unlike the folk songs of the past that usually detailed a story of a local hero, family history or political struggle, the new style is almost about sound and expression - more of a freeform jazz/ slam poetry influence.
